Long hiatus

Hi all!

It has been a long time (for internet clocks, at least) since the last post. Anyway, for now it is unlikely that I will keep this going: lately I have been able to find a (more or less) stable job, and when I come back home I tend to find little joy in playing with the computer, specially with Minecraft. Not because of the game, but because I am tired enough to not want to "keep working" (making my own house, automatization of the place, etc...) and, if I want to play a computer game, I tend to go for simple and short ones if possible. Not to mention the gym will open up this monday, so that means, essentially, I have less than 12 free hours between monday and friday, clearly not enough to make a let's play or similar things.

Anyway, I won't say this is the end of this project: as the title says, it is just an hiatus, and I might go back to it later, but for now that's it.

Thanks to you all for watching the previous videos, thanks for all the likes, and thanks for your patience. I hope it was at least half as funny for you as it was for me making it, and I'm sorry I didn't got around to make that multi-dimension operation based around of traincraft. I got it all to work with the trains & zeppelin mod, but simply put, I had no free time to play it.

Summer pause

It has been ten days since the last post, so I think I should give some status update:

I've been out of town for a week, and I'm still "landing" back home, also Star Trek Online released Season 6 with the starbases (and I am an officer in two fleets, damn myself XD). That points very badly to my capability of sustaining any streaming, at least for now.

That being said, I'd like to "leak" some of future projects: I will try to make a custom map to show some of the possibilities of the train mods I use (essentially railcraft and steve's carts), adding the possibilities of the Zeppelin and trains mod, not because it adds any new stuff to the game in the core of it, but because I always liked trains (ok, my father never let me play with the train models we had, so its a little a kid's frustration :) ), and the mod adds a lot of other possibilities.

To increase the easiness of distributing this, and since my talent when merging mods is untested thanks to my lazyness, I will be using Direwolf20's let's play (season 4) setup. I will explore the needed avenues to add the trains mod, anyway. We shall see, and the trains mod is not really a priority now, since the main one should be the working of trains!

I will see to try this for September, first with some videos, and finally with the map files, but I make no promises ^^. Also, my next video (a bunch of them, really) is more than likely going to be about Star Trek and the fleet starbases.

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 75

Finally it's here, the last episode of the season, at least for a while. Castle Black is nearly unplayable with 13 FPS at best when recording, and strangely enough almost the same when not. It was a fun project, though, and I enjoyed the complete simplification of the geothermal plant.

Of course, I know I didn't touch several parts of the mods: I barely scratched the surface of Forestry's beekiping or its alternate fuel system (frankly, I prefer to use solar energy), I used Buildcraft's blueprints only once, and thaumcraft was merely exploited. As for Mystcraft, it has a lot of potential, specially since you can set up your base in the main world and then expand to others, but alas I see more potential for that mod in a server, specially with the latest releases and the portals. That, by the way, is something that can be said also from Railcraft, which is a great mod (and I cannot wait to see it with Trains and Zeppelin in my computer), but I feel it would show all its potential in a big server.
Unlike on previous let's play series, Industrialcraft took a second place, being there only for the automated processing system and almost nothing else, while Buildcraft became a silent witness of the time passed: my quarries were not 64x64, but they were close to 50x50.
As for Redpower 2, I never went ahead and used the computer, because I was waiting to be able to install the next version (prerrelease 5b2), something I never came around, mostly because I was waiting for a new version of IDResolver that still has not been released. I suppose I could go ahead and make my own config file, but I hate looking at lines of code.
Strangely enough, the mod I reached "endgame" with was Equivalent Exchange: we reached a point where producing massive amounts of EMC was customary, and we got a quickstart thanks to the two condenser chests and the darkroom generator trick. At the time of closing this episode, besides all the Mk3 collectors and all the other stuff (essentially throwing away diamonds like they were cobblestone), I had more than 10 stacks of Red Matter, plus four fully charged Klein Star Spheres. Way past "creative mode" thanks to the red matter items (and the elemental cutter from Thaumcraft), the portable transmutation tablet and the ender pouches.

Anyway, it has been a fun season, with more things going on than I thought I would, and I expect to release one or two more Minecraft-related videos during the summer, but until october its quite unlikely that I will start another let's play.
For you that have been there since episode one, thanks. I hope you got some tricks and thought of better ones, and that you liked it enough to come back for more in the future.
And remember people, have fun! Because if you don't enjoy what you do, where's the point?

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 74

Well, here goes more building of the latest parts of the castle. In the next episode - the last- I will be crafting an electrical generator based on my old "geothermal generator" idea, but using some energy collectors and a condenser to produce lava buckets that will be placed on the geothermal generators from IC2. Then it will be just a matter of setting some place with the production systems and wire it all, and we'll be ready!

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 73

First of all, I'd like to announce that this season is coming to an end: as soon as I finish the "Castle Black" project, it will be done (which I intend to have ready for episode 75).

Second, due to several other reasons and projects, I don't have time to keep the series going, and the next two episodes will go from the usual "episode per day" to "episode each every two days". So, if everything goes according to plan, episode 74 will be released on Wendnesday and 75 will be released on Friday (it is very likely that the last one won't be released at noon, too).

Third, a port of Tale of Kingdoms to Minecraft 1.2.5 has been released here, I don't know how it was published without me noticing it for months, but better late than never, I suppose :S

Finally, episode 73, where we start the rail system and keep building. By the way, remember I am using outdated versions of a lot of mods! So it is very likely that the latest version of Steve's Minecarts will have some sort of extra options to tell the cart assembler to stop moving forward if it needs some materials, or even to go back to get more.

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 72

Some random ramblings with hopefully helpful stuff... Next episode, we will start for sure the railcraft travelling system!

sábado, 30 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 71

More building, and a realization: the provider pipes, while more convenient than chassi pipes + modules, have the small problem of taking the first item first, so I cannot use them with condensers. Thus, I will have to change it!

My project will be using MK1 chassi pipes (redstone-based) with a provider module (duh! >.<) for small EMC items, and MK2 (Iron-based) with both a provider and an itemsink module for the EMC expensive ones (diamonds and the like). Obviously, there will be a destination for "useless" items: either a furnace or a condenser.

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 70

Storage area and production facility on the works! I will get around and make the crafting system as fast as I can. Someday... XD

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 69

Another 2 parts video, because before I realize it it was 50 minutes long ^^U

Part 1:

Part 2:

In this videos we will add a good staircase to go to the second level, a working door, and some other goodies. After that, well, you'll have to watch the videos :)

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 68

The building of the second floor of the castle starts! Sadly, glass panels wont connect to iron stuff, so it won't look as nicer as I wanted it to, but...

martes, 26 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 67

Building and deciding... And finally, expanding the castle! I might go ahead and expand it again in the future, but for now...

lunes, 25 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 66

I don't know why this video has no preview, but it works anyway :S. As for the episode's contents, it seems like the damn frame engines are my personal beasts XD. Also remember that you need AND cells for thedoor opening contraption ^^U.

domingo, 24 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 65

Keepin' Building! Damn Eldritch Stone, while black, can't be placed by the filler if there is no other block under it :S

sábado, 23 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 64

Bees, bugs and buildings! Yeah, this seems like an S&P definition (BBB... oh dear...) XD. Anyway, I start today with the tropical bees in the volcano, then I will keep the building of the castle, and as a big news I will add an underground bluelectric power generation room for the whole castle (with a lot of batboxes too...). Thermopile power!

viernes, 22 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 63

IC2 teleporter again, door motors and walls. However, I will have to move the teleporter a little because it is in a conflicting chunk (well, part of it is!).

martes, 19 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 60

More Castle Black! We are going to exploit our ingenuity and to abuse all the great toys and ideas Buildcraft gives us, not to mention the other mods that will allow us to build impressive engineering tasks without effort!
Of course, I know I can just charge up my Volcanite Amulet and fill the bottom of the hole with lava... but why bother, if I can set up a system that will do it for me while I build other parts of the keep?

On a sidenote, happy birthday to me :p

lunes, 18 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 59

The IC2 Teleporting system begins to be made! Of course, I will have to make another on the "other side" (which I call "Castle Black", as I told in a previous episode), which means I need to start making stuff like a madman, but for now, I suppose all is OK. Now I only need to think if I can make some sort of system to keep the manual work to the bare minimum...

domingo, 17 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 58

Cropping... and the start of new projects!

Also, I published a new video on Star Trek Online about the new ship, the Armitage-class heavy carrier escort (essentially, an egineering version of the Multivector assault escort, with a torpedo spam console and one hangar bay, with the skin of an Akira-class heavy escort). You can find it here.

sábado, 16 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 57

The railcraft project about making a tour around the mob spawner gets done in this episode. It is actually very straightforward, but it demands time.

As for the next episodes, I will start with IC2 crosbreeding, keep the beekeeping and start with the reactor breeder, plus I intend to start a big project that I will be starting now with some clearing and filling (nothing fancy, just a filler first programmed to clear and then to fill the bottom of the cleared area).

viernes, 15 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 56

Main door as a wall. I am sure next time I try to make a base, I will go for castle walls 3 blocks deep made with basalt, so I can hide everything I need inbetween... Specially the main door!

Also, here you can see a screenshot of the circuit I'm using for this. It does not have a self-reset part, but it is as easy as connecting a timer to the toggle latch, so after 4-5 seconds the other engine will work.
Also, after testing, you can set the State Cell at 3.6 seconds and the timer at 0.8 seconds.

jueves, 14 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 55

More stuff being done. Essentially, beekeeping work (a new set of apiaries automated outside of the house, the finding of the rest of the bees you can get with the scoop, that kind of things).
Also, I tried to update to a new version of the mods, but I was taken down miserably due to several ID issues (priceless to see Coal and Charcoal with strange icons, and redstone as iron gears...), and I will mention it in the next episode. However, I am aware Pahimar released a new 4096 ID fix, and I will try to look if I can use it and update the mods without a great derp... I can live with some mod-ID swapping (it's just a matter of patiente, a little NEI help, and much, much patiente if it brokes something like the automated crafting system), but having base resources bugged is something I don't even know how to look at.

Also, expect new Mystcraft content if I can update succesfully. The only thing I need to cross my fingers about is ID Resolver working, and Railcraft's NEI module being accesible again (the ling seems broken after the ad.fly banner).

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 54

Today we will finish the carpenter project and make an automated system for two Railcraft's Coke Oven. In the next episode I might change things a little, to include the blast furnace into the crafting system (since the burning of iron into the steel it produces is quick enough, we can go for crafting pipes there). I might also make a good, wide door for us to use.

martes, 12 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 53

Carpenter Project, I choose you! I mean, today's episode will have me fooling around the carpenter placing and finishing some little details on the basalt tower near my main tower...

lunes, 11 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 52

Sorry I'm late with this episode, and mostly a preparation one to boot, but here you have your quasi-daily dosage of Let's Play...
"To Do" list included, sadly, no coffe can be found in the mansion, so I cannot record the mad scientist's safe's sequence to get a diamond to travel in time.

sábado, 9 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 51

Well, I finally finish this bee identification system, and in the next episode I will start with the carpenter-related autocrafting (and auto-uncrating) system, but just start it, since almost all of the episode will involve some preparations and a rapid transit system between my nuclear reactor site and my base (and my breeder... which I expect to start using sometime this century). Its just that so many things pile up...

But due to some issues with my agenda, I might not be able to upload the video to youtube until monday, so I hope you will forgive me for the delay if it happens. Too much work since last saturday, and this weeked is the grand finale... plus the miners (real world miners) have been cutting road and train communications around here, giving everything a good extra spicy flavour ^^.

viernes, 8 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 50

I will add a cliffhanger at the end of the episode... But fear not, it will be solved quickly in the new one. Also, we will finish the elevator and all the dependant stuff of the breeder installation. I will add some stuff in a future episode, though, but nothing too fancy.

jueves, 7 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 49

Scaffolding, autobee sorting system, and an frame elevator (new design... that will not work, but I will solve in the next episode).

martes, 5 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 47

Building frenzy! I'm gonna make a nuclear breeder that will work. I was going to send lava and ice depending of the temperatures, but considering 1 lava bucket is worth 2000 heat and 1 ice block 300...

Also I will make a frame elevator.

lunes, 4 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 46

First attempt at making a reactor breeder. Total failure, but oh well, at least I showed some new RP2 stuff... ^^U

domingo, 3 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 45

The last of the updates for our nuclear reactor system gets followed by some Forestry stuff, regarding the carpenter to be precise.
And my wild idea of rail-travelling frame movement system gets formulated here ^^

sábado, 2 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 44

Wintry drones, Forestry stuff, and more energy generation! In the next episode, I will multiply by 9 the storage capacity of four different kind of items, and save energy!

viernes, 1 de junio de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 43

Sorry for the delay, I forgot to make this entry ^^U.

Now on the episode, aside from the now usual "ninja episode" where I forget to turn on the microphone, we will start generating serious amounts of solar electricity and using up UUM. And we will get a whool farm, and on episode 45-46, hopefully a reactor breeder.
Yes, IC2 time! Serious IC2 to boot :)

jueves, 31 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 42

Railcraft, Railcraft everywhere! And we emptied one of the nuclear reactors, needing to be refilled. I am going to make a reactor breeder in the close future, maybe on the Nether, but I'm not sure yet.

A whool farm will be part of the next episode.

miércoles, 30 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 41

MINECART MADNESSSSSSSSS!!!! XD Let's keep exploring Railcraft's possibilities, but if you ask me, I think Railcraft would really shine in big multiplayer maps where you have lots of people going from here to there, and mounting train systems, moving goods, etc...

Just imagine a place with several big Quarries, feeding their output to a storage station that would place the usable items into long minecart trains... couple IC2, BC3 and railcraft, and the possibilities are inmense, specially if you use Steve's Carts too!
Mmmm... now I want to see a thaumcraft-tank cart...

martes, 29 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 40

Finishing touches to the nuclear system, and some other minor stuff. While the elevator is simple and limited, it fulfills its purpose.

Also, while I mention at the end of the episode I will try to update the setup... I tried. I failed :(.

lunes, 28 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 39

Let's keep going witht he nuclear reactor project! Today we will make the supply system for the carts and place the relevant stuff on the mass fabricators. I will be placing some logic gates after I finish the elevator, by the way...

domingo, 27 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 38

Don't get fooled, only the first part of the episode is inside a testing world. The rest, it is in the let's play one.

Also, I apologize for using MCEdit to move the nuclear station to the testing world, for some reason I was not able to make the builder to accept the blueprint (it is likely that I had exceeded the number of blocks...).

Finalle, whiel ender chests are great, but they have a small problem when coupled with logistic satellite pipes to keep buckets of water AND to act as a buffer for more crafting pipes: their inventory is too small.
So I decided to put to use some of those chests I found inside obelisks, which meant to craft some interface on top of them. Essentially, I saved myself from the trouble of resettling some recipes and little more, but I think it is an interesting improvement.

sábado, 26 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 37

I need water buckets to be on my production system, and I do need them to be avaiable quickly. Let's use Ender Chests to solve that, with some help from RP2 too.

And do not mind the taint explosion, I have some purity potions stashed just in case something like this happens... I have a lot of enchanted trees at hand, be it wood or leaves! And yes, I know I can place some leaves around wood in my thaumcraft lab to destroy taint. I'll get to it eventually.

viernes, 25 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 36

Railcraft, Steve's Minecarts... Blast furnace debuts off-camera. And hopefully, nuclear reactors on episode 38!

jueves, 24 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 35

More quarry work and Railcraft starts to show up... let's hope I can rescue my game from a fatal crash so I don't have to redo a whole nuclear installation with 4 reactors (the game really crashed when I tried to make a blueprint, with some mention to IC2's reactor chambers Oo).

miércoles, 23 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 34

More tweaks to the recycler system (since the insertion pipes do not work all that nice with the recyclers, because since I am using two engines, sometimes two stone blocks want to go where only one can fit), which allows me to show you another interesting pipe.

But the really interesting part of the episode will be the updating of our automatic crafting system to be able to make all the necessary parts for a nuclear reactor (well, not all, the reactor chamber block is crafted so few times it is not necessary to make one there). Considering that most items do not stack in this recipes, and that Logistic Pipes require special considerations when it comes to that kind of stuff, we will see a new logistic pipe in action today.

Also, I won't be using the bottom of the obelisk in the end, I think I will make a full fledged nuclear plant, hopefully using some buildcraft stuff and letting most of the parts to build themselves...

martes, 22 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 33

I want Ender chests. So I need to go to the Nether, make a base, and get some materials. And the sword from Thaumcraft? Be carefull, since she can attract several ghast's fireballs.

And more than likely, I will end using the ring inside a pedestal for some kind of farming stuff.

lunes, 21 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 32

Updates note: I am aware of the different mods being updated. However, I am using some mods that seem to interfere a little with others, and while I am working to upgrade Forge to 3.1.3.105 so I can use the latest version of mods like Railcraft or RedPower 2, I'm essentially bottlenecked with Robinton's 4096 (yeah, I know there is a version on Inficraft's thread, but it seems to be for Forge 3.1.3.101, and while I am trying, it doesn't seem to work).

Emergency! Oh gosh, was that an explosion? Yup it was... seems like while I was mining away, one of the infinite water pools ended empty. Which caused our three engines to explode (thankfully, I only lost some redstone engines).
We will also make some tweaks to the recycler system, and add a new crafting capability to the system under the main floor: cooking iron into refined iron. And we will place another quarry (and two more later), but that will be a little... too much items travelling trhough pipes for my system. so we'll use something new from the Additional Buildcraft Pipes...
As for the attempt to test if a black hole band works inside of an ender pouch... it does not, and I am aware I left the other ring inside the advanced wooden pipe, don't worry.

Industrialcraft 2: Energy storage & movemet tutorial

Well, somebody asked for it, so here it is, a 20 minutes or so video about Industrialcraft 2 covering wiring, energy storage blocks, and transformers. Remember the wiki is here, and have fun!

domingo, 20 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 31

First contact with Buildcraft's logic gates, and the incorporation of the recyclers so we can start making an item we will need in the future.
I will think about using gravel, though (gravel is 4 EMC, while stone and cobblestone are 1 EMC) so I can use that condenser as a destination for excess cobble.

sábado, 19 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 30

Finally, Thaumcraft's occultic enchanter put to use! I must say, the interface is more than great! I also started with my bees finally (I place the modest/desert bees this episode, and I will place the wintry/snow bees between episodes). Now I only need to automate the process :S

Oh, and I also introduce three IC2 mods: nuclear controlSeed Manager, and Advanced Solar Panels (it is not the same as the Solar Array mod, don't worry)

viernes, 18 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 29

How to build several floors for your mob grinder with a few clicks and in minutes? Look no further, here we have the solution!
Disclaimer: this solution is limited to buildings of 64x64x64 blocks tops ^^

EMC generator without using collectors

I was asked a couple of days ago to make a tutorial on how to craft the darkroom used to turn bonemeal into lost of EMC, and here is the video.

The materials used are:

  • 1 transposer (top)
  • 1 deployer (bottom)
  • 1 Filter
  • 3 pieces of bonemeal
  • 1 RP timer
  • 1 lever
  • 9 pieces of dirt
  • 18 pieces of smooth stone
  • 2 collectors (the most expensive part of all... and they are cheaper than mk1 collectors)
  • A bunch of RP2 redstone tubes (made with glass, tin, copper and redstone dust)
  • Some stone jacketed wire
And the tools used are a RP diamond handsaw (but in this case, one made with any of the RP gems should suffice) and a RP screwdriver.

For comparison, I placed a full setup of mkII collectors (12), 2 mk1 relays and 1 condenser, and we can see it is slower than this contraption (and compare the 12 diamonds invested in the whole contraption, against the 18 used only by the two relays... and the more than 200 diamonds for those 12 mk collectors!)

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 27

Finishing touches for the refinery/energy production (yes, I know, very ineffective setup for the room XD) and some more thaumcraft investigation.
Truly, this season has a looooot of stuff to investigate ^^

martes, 15 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 26

Thaumcraft's enchanter, and Buildcraft's refinery! Plus we use the reinforced stone from IC2.
Also, for episode 30 I will add three more mods to the setup, related to IC2!

lunes, 14 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 25

IC2 Resin tree arboretum, upgrades to the production facility, and some heads up with the darkroom EMC generators.

domingo, 13 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 24

Episode missing: 24 beta 1 and 25 beta 1... So what did you missed? Essentially, my building of six cells of darkroom+condenser device, and the substitution of the other half of the sorting and production system for a logistic pipes-based one.

sábado, 12 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 23

One of the ideas I shamelessly copied from the Feed the Beast let's play by Direwolf20: the darkroom turning bonemeal into tons of EMC. What is shown here is just a prototype, though: I will have six units working in the next episode.
And each one is more efficient than five Mk3 collectors from Equivalent Exchange.

viernes, 11 de mayo de 2012

jueves, 10 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 21

Not only we are going to finish the logistic pipe sorting system (first half), but we also start with bees!

miércoles, 9 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 20

Some misspronunciation in my german... that's fine, though, I don't have any talent for that language XD. Anyway, lets go piping! Logistic pipes finally enter the game!

lunes, 7 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 18

Mystcraft works! I have some small issues with marble generation, but setting that aside, it is time to exploit those poor worlds I can just throw away if I want to for everything they are worth... How corporate of me, don't you think? XD

Incidentally, yesterday I discovered that Millenaire is now working with Mystcraft, so I will give it a try, and let the towns come for the episode 20.
In the meantime, I need to expand my EMC generation, I need a lot of diamonds to start making the autocrafting system!

domingo, 6 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 17

I fly! I flyyyyy! Ouch! Yeah, today we will make the electrick jetpack from Industrialcraft XD. I will also attack fiercely Thaumcraft (I plan to leave the computer on for a long time, and then burn a lot of EMC, using the transmutation tablet, into bookshelves...), so we will make today the two items to detect taint and vis (and then, join them together).

Also, I have been promoted to officer in my Star Trek online guild. So we go back to one episode every 24 hours until the fleet solves some trouble with the hacked accounts...

sábado, 5 de mayo de 2012

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 16

Well, Buildcraft enters with strength today! Aided by Forestry's electrical engines (I like their graphics more than any other electricity to BC-energy block, even if they are a little too inefficient). The next step will mostly be some more solar panels connected to two more of those for the arboretum and the logger (those two blocks that are providing me with wood), or maybe I will make a huge power system for five or even seven systems (trees, rubber trees and peat). I like engines that do not explode...

my TO DO list... Oil (meaning BC's pump, tanks, refinery...), automatic crafting tables (I think I might use the upper floor of the tower for this), a portal spawner for the quarry, and of course I need to finish the monster trap (yeah, I know it is small and somewhat pitiful... I might add another 9-10 blocks to the other side of the main stream...). A pumpkin farm might be something I will add, but I'm not sure (I do not use them that much). Discovering the damn bell is, of course, needed...

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 15

Updates on research (man, those cobblestone pieces surely pay off!), finishing touches to the sorting machine (yeah, I will change where the tubes are in the next video to allow for the provider logistic pipes to be under the chests instead of not cover by RP2's panels).

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 14

Yeah, more "refining phase". Buildcraft will actually arrive on Episode 16... and yes, I could use Logistic Pipes for the automatic sorting system, but look at it my way: I would need the following items to make it work:

  • 1 chest in place of the second sorting machine (so I don't need to replace ALL the system, not to mention Logistic Pipes won't work with covers).
  • 1 Chassi MK 2 (8 iron bars + 1 logistic pipe each) per chest I want to have connected to the system, plus one (to get the items from the chest substituting the sorting machine).
  • At least 1 provider Module (1 gold gear, 4 lapis, 3 redstone, 1 blank module) and 1 Itemsink module (4 cactus green, 1 iron gear, 3 redstone and 1 blank module) OR 1 provider Module and 1 Polymorphic module (4 orange dye, 1 iron gear, 3 redstone and 1 blank module if I remember right) per receiving chest (this would save me the need for two pipes being connected to the storage system). Chests with more than 9 different items to storage will require additional Itemsink modules (and a higher mark of chassi to accomodate it, upping the cost from iron to gold, diamond... or even blocks of both!).
  • The ItemSink module on the last chest/miscelaneous junk need to be set up as a default route (easy and free).
  •  1 quicksort module (1 diamond gear, 4 lapis, 3 redstone, 1 blank module) and 1 extractor module (1 iron gear, 4 lapis, 3 redstone, 1 blank module) that can be upgraded to a mk2 extractor module (ADD to the cost 1 golden gear). The extractor module will take care of all items not included in the system, sending them to the default route (since the quicksort module won't pull them out).
Remember each blank module is 1/9 of a gold bar (1 gold nugget), 2 redstone and 6 paper, and that you need 2 wooden planks per wooden gear, which is used with 4 cobblestone to make 1 stone gear, which is used with 4 iron to make 1 iron gear, which is used with 4 gold bars to make 1 golden gear, which is used with 4 diamonds to make 1 diamond gear.
And we didn't started counting the investment on the crafting pipes for the automated crafting system! Remember we need 1/4 diamond and 2 golden gears (and 2 redstone torches, plus 2 glass blocks) per 8 logistic pipes...

See why I don't feel guilty for using Equivalent Exchange? ^^

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 13

Finally the damn sorting system. Or its prototyping. Seriously, I will end making a schematic of this for easy deploying.

And no, I won't tie the excess of cobblestone/dirt to the recycler. I will drop them directly to a EE relay. In the future.

Mod updates: Thaumcraft & Mystcraft

I wanted to make an entry specially for these two mods, because they have been actualized recently (Tahumcraft 3 days ago, and Mystcraft a few hours... or maybe the other way around XD), and now Mystcraft works with my game setup (I was wise enough to save a mincraft.jar without the mystcraft addon injected). Also, you will be happy to know that both mods work together: I spawned into a chessboarded biome that had like 4 Monoliths close-by.

In case you are a purist, that means a lot more possibilities for abusing the taint system... so you might not want to use it. Personally, I will exploit this stuff in the Let's Play, at least to show you all how this goes XD.

Oh, and this will be shown in Episode 18, seventeen is about me making (finally) some Thaumcraft stuff, since I realized I was able to craft the basic boots and vis/taint detectors without researching them first. No luck with the damn crystal bell, though.

Have fun!

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 12

Minecart wheat farm, discoveries... and the start of a doomed setup for a series of ideas for the sorting machine. By episode 16 I'd have it straight, I swear...

Sorry for the lousy audio before talking about the teleporting pipes, I use an earphones + microphone system and I tend to sneeze every now and then... so it's because I moved the microphone.

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 11

Damn sorting system takes about three or four hours to get straight. And I still had to make modifications in episode 16 XD.
And that damn crystal bell from thaumcraft cannot be more hard to discover. Fortunately, I seem to be able to change 3 stacks of cobble (or dirt) for 6-9 fragments of lost knowledge...

Seriously, were I a maid, I'd be a straight-faced dojikko whit a single flaw of variable severity on every attempted action. Want coffe? Damn, I used salt instead of sugar (true story. Never had a coffe so able to wake me up fast...). That's why I'm so obsessed with self-debugging...

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 10

Will I finally start the damn sorting machine? Will I manage to actually start a quarry? Oh dear, things are getting too.... complicated.

Sorry, got a huge migraine and forgot to link the video with the post. Should be ok now, and as of today I'll air only one movie per day (those 14 pieces of tungsten go only so far, sadly... and Logistic Pipes' apetite for diamonds is ravenous).

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 9

I am sorry, I am having lots of problems to fit each episode in less than 30-35 minutes! I suppose I try to do a lot of stuff at once, and there it is, 40 minutes before I realize it...

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 8

Yesterday I watched the Avengers movie. Pretty standard plot, but Joss Whedon saved the day and turned the movie into something I'm not guilty of watching in the cinema. Only... poor Black Widow...

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 7

Episode seven! We are on sale or what? Oh well... since it seems we are, let's think about expanding the house ^^

Disclaimer: The author is not promising that this episode will feature an expansion of the house or any surrounding terrain at this moment in the series.

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 6

Here it is, episode six!

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 5

Double Episode! No, that was a joke... I cut Episode 5 in two for your convenience ^^. Be advised, however, that The Nether is not a safe place, so keep your limbs inside the car at all times :)

Part one:

And here is part two:

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 4

Ok, Time to get serious with the production!

Minecraft Let's Play season 3, Episode 3

Funny enough, I keep receiving comments from old videos, like the Food Factory and the Automatic Tree Farm... Anyway, I'm staying away from 9x9 houses this time, and while I am at it, I'm realizing I need to go even more back in time and make really big houses...

On a sidenote, I just checked my CAE results. 89% with speaking being my weakest subject (I thought it was going to be writing!) with something in the middle of 75% and 79%. I knew I needed to practice some british accent xD.

Let's Play season 3, episode 1

Here we get a New Beginning, with my first steps. Yes, I know, the first step should be looking for rubber trees. My mind was wandering through the nether... But I solved that in Episode 2.

Anyway, here is the episode:

I hope to release one video every day, but right now the bottleneck is my Internet connection (I finished recording up to episode 5, but I wasn't able to start uploading the last four until a few hours ago).

Let's play S3: modlist

Well, since we are starting a new season (if I'm completely sincere with you... it's the third "episode one" I start to record!), I better provide a list (with links) to all the mods I will be using.

Let's start, then:

If you are wondering why did I included Chickenbones' Wireless redstone mod instead of the one we have been using all this time, I can only say that it is a more expensive (in materials) version that also adds some interesting options, but more importantly, it is much more in line with Redpower. And I love Redpower.

As for other mods that are absent here, here are the list:

  • ModloaderMP: no longer needed, and even conflicting with the latest versions of Forge.
  • Optifine: besides the vanishing parts of the world (at least, graphically), it gives some trouble with some of the mods.
  • Millénaire: No longer conflicts with Mystcraft, but I am having code issues that crases the game before the game's menu.
  • Computercraft: Not only I didn't use it in the previous let's play despite having it installed, the Control part of Redpower already has a computer (with its own OS) that is a little more to my liking, and I'm not a programmer, thus having a mod devoted to that is a little... wasteful.
  • Mo's Creatures: black screen upon loading, and I'm reticent to tinker anymore with the Minecraft.jar file. Shame we won't be seeing the expanded fauna, but I'll live.
  • Tale of Kingdoms: Abandoned as of Minecraft 1.10, due to the author preparing a new "ToK 2.0"
  • Better than Wolves: even with the Better than Buildcraft "addon", I can't make it run with Forge, so...
This being said, I expect Episode 1 to be released before a day. Thanks for reading, and I hope to see you all in the the series!
